On Rape and Orientation

I wanted to write about something today that i have been concerned about almost all my life. RAPE.
A lot of Nigerians are utterly disappointing when it comes to our attitude, reactions or opinions concerning Rape especially the male folks.
It’s disheartening when I read reactions from Nigerians concerning a rape news where a woman is often the victim.
You reads comments like:

She caused it
She tempted her rapist
She was dressing indecently
She went to his house, what did she expect?
She is loose and lacks manners
She seduced him. He has blood running through his veins

There is no excuse to Justify Rape! No matter the circumstances.
Rape is Evil!
Dear Men, if a woman comes to your house looking sexy and jaw dropping, it is not an excuse to forcefully have carnal knowledge of her. Even if she gives her consent and changes her mind at the last minute, let her be! Listen to her. ‘NO’ means ‘NO’.
Don’t assume she is just teasing you. Don’t assume she is pretending. Assumptions are not always facts.
When you make an exuse whatsoever to justify Rape or sexual assult, you have become a perpetrator of the act too.
In our society
A man in a room full of women is ecstatic
But
A woman in a room full of men is terrified
Our society needs reformation. We need to properly orientate our fathers, sons, brothers, daughters, sisters, mothers about the damages and consequences of rape on victims.
Rape victims are often traumatised by the tragic experiences. The aftermath is too numerous to mention. Suicide, self hate, low self esteem, etc.
My name is Amaka Madu.
I want my voice to be heard today And always. And I stand against rape. You should too. Say ‘No’ to this crippling societal vice.
Report rape cases to appropriate authorities. Help Rape victims get professional help and counselling. It is up to us to change the world..
You and me.
One step at a time.
