VIOLA DAVIS; RISING FROM THE ASHES
Black women are strong, black women are energetic, they are achievers and they are not going to give up without a fight. These are the qualities portrayed on Mahogany’s Hall of Fame. Viola Davis possesses all of the qualities of a phenomenal back woman. She has stood out, and achieved what many people thought was impossible for a black woman to achieve. Viola Davis has risen from the ashes like a phoenix.
Despite her humble beginning, Davis remained with a strong spirit and has maintained the true definition of what it means to be black and proud. Viola Davis described her childhood as having “lived in abject poverty and dysfunction.” During her childhood, Davis recalls living in “rat infested and condemned apartments.” Davis mother was an activist during the Civil Rights Movement, and at age two, Davis was taken to jail with her mother after she was arrested during a civil rights protest.
Apart from being a positive image of a Strong, Black, African-American woman, Viola Davis is a one of a kind actress. Her acting, I must say, is a type that depict strong character and passion. I always enjoy watching her movies, because her acting has its way of enveloping you deep into the movie, were you begin to experience the story and it’s emotions for yourself, and it leaves you spellbound.
Viola Davis is family woman with a child. Her elegance, class and fashion speaks for itself, as she always slays all red carpet functions she attends. Rising out of the ashes, she has become one of the most respectable black women in Hollywood.
